Vern Tremewen, his easel, his paints and his pipe have become as much a part of the Lahaina landscape as the subjects he paints.

Australian-born and a graduate of the Melbourne National Gallery of Art, he emigrated to Canada where his work in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver earned him an enviable reputation in the late 1940’s.

Lengthy painting sojourns in Mexico and Bermuda (where he served on the jury of the Bermuda Society of Arts) brought him international recognition as a watercolorist and, in 1972, he was elected a member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolor.

Tremewen works now hang in the Guiness family collection in London, England and in many other private collections in Europe and North America.  They have represented Canada at the Imperial Show in Tokyo and were chosen to form part of the Fiftieth Anniversary Exhibition of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolor.  His annual shows in Lahaina were a tradition and have led to his works being included in the best private collections in the Hawaiian Islands.
